Ministry of Health’s Chief Security Advisor (IT)
Nick is currently the Ministry of Health’s Chief Security Advisor (IT). The purpose of this role is to drive and lead an increase in the cyber security maturity of New Zealand’s health and disability sector agencies (public and private). Prior to taking up this role in November 2017, Nick was a Team Leader at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) where he led a team of Engagement Managers whom were responsible for working with New Zealand’s critical national infrastructure and organisations of national significance, to help them improve their cyber security posture and maturity. This role was one of a series of roles he fulfilled during nearly 10 years of professional experience from across the New Zealand Intelligence Community (including more than five years of this time spent with the NCSC). During his time within the NCSC, Nick spent much of it engaging a strategic level with New Zealand’s critical national infrastructure, and organisations of national significance, to help them improve their cyber security posture and maturity. He also supported a wide range of major cyber security projects and activities across both the public and private sector. His professional interests include: cyber security maturity mentoring; ‘normalising’ cyber security as a core business risk issue; and developing “best practice” cyber security guidance.
